The Ultimate Gut Reboot Podcast

Tim JacksonYou may remember Tim Jackson (pictured left) from the very popular article that appeared here a few weeks ago entitled Broken Gut to Big Butt: How A Busted Digestive System Can Make You Hormonally Fat.

Tim also appears as a guest in Dr. Jack Kruse's “Optimal Reset” program.

Dr. Tim Jackson received his undergraduate degree in Health science and chemistry from Wake Forest University in 2003. He completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy(DPT) from the Medical University of SC in 2009.

Realizing that manual therapy and orthopedic care helped only some of his patients, he began studying functional and environmental medicine, as well as digestive health, in an effort to help others achieve wellness.

Dr. Tim is educated in nutritional biochemistry, digestive health and its systemic effects, as well as functional endocrinology. He recently completed the Spine portion of the Active Release Technique methodology, a system that addresses musculoskeletal trigger points and helps to expedite the healing process. Currently, Dr. Tim is working on his Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist certification. He also trained with Dr. Kendal Stewart, M.D. to learn the far-reaching implications of methylation deficits and their role in Neuro-immune syndromes. He combines his background in integrative medicine with the cutting-edge protocols developed by Dr. Stewart to optimize patient outcomes.

Tim also offers long-distance consultations to help guide you through the process of addressing methylation. Unfortunately, this process requires much more than simply taking a L-5-methylfolate supplement, and you must address gut/digestive health, control inflammation, and address other SNP's (single nucleotide polymorphisms).

During our discussion, you'll discover:

-Why your mother and the health of her umbilical cord affects you for life…

-Why digestive issues are becoming more and more common today…

-The #1 best test to get to find out if you have a broken gut…

-How high cortisol can damage your gut…

-The best way to clean your liver…

-How to do genetic testing and find out if you have polymorphisms that affect your gut…

-Why you may not be making enough stomach acid, even if you're less than 35 years old…

-Why you may not want to be taking probiotics every day…

-How bacteria can move from your large intestine into your small intestine, and what you can do about it…

-Why biofilm prevents you from obtaining optimal digestion…

-And much more!

  1. Ryan says:

I recently spent $1,200 with “Dr.” Jackson. It was an underwhelming experience across the board, and candidly, it erodes my confidence in the Ben Greenfield podcast that he is associated with him.

-On the first call, he had me stop the protocol for my HHV6 that he recommended on this blog.
-At the end of the initial call he tried to upsell me on a $6,000 subscription
-I asked him for HIPAA documents and how he handles data – he had no contract or simple forms for this. After a week he send me a form for another practice that he downloaded from another practice that he was not affiliated with.
-He flaked on our second call three times
-He recommended that I acquire a FDA banned that had recently been banned in the UK because of contamination issue
-My favorite part is that he *insisted* on being called “doctor” when he is a not an MD or Functional Medicine doctor.

He’s a charlatan at best and dangerous at worst. I would highly recommended saving your money and health and staying away.

Ben – just having him on your site erodes my faith in you. I recommend that you revisit.

  2. drtim2428 says:

You can still get the 23andme raw data (rs####) and run it through the application at www.MTHFRSupport.com. They just can't make claims about your relative risk. Please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks for your questions!

  3. rwnencha says:

Hey loved the podcast but two issues I need help with…. 1. You can't get testing from 23 and me due to FDA ban. So how do you do it. 2. Tim Jackson's website doesn't seem too work so I can't contact him to sign up with him.
    thanks

    1. I'll get Tim Jackson on to reply.

  4. darcieg76 says:

Looks like it was definitely done in the presence of lots of carbs :-p : Thirty-nine young and normal-weight individuals were overfed muffins high in SFA (palm oil) or n-6 PUFA (sunflower oil) for 7 weeks.

  5. darcieg76 says:

How does the 30% match up with your ratios? I didn't read through the study, but I thought the title was that polyunsaturated seemed to have the best effect, which would seem strange unless that was a ton of omega 3's, and even then…

I imagine Dave Asprey and some other folks (Mark Sisson and Paul Jaminet, probably, too) would have some issues with this?

    1. While your diet can be 50-70%+ based fat, if you're looking at things from an overall body composition standpoint, getting closer to 30% of that fat from saturated fat sources, and not much more than that, is a good goal.

  6. gkriggs says:

Regarding the PubMed study on too much saturated fat leads to fatty liver, do you know if the study took into account the amount of choline in the subject’s diet? Chris Masterjohn has an article in his Daily Lipid blog that talks about how choline helps prevent developing fatty liver from consuming fat.

    1. I don't believe it did Greg. It didn't take lots of things into account HOWEVER it gave us clues…

      1. nigelregal says:

Does the study indicate anything related to macronutrients? Were they both high carb or low carb?
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC1vMBRFiwE&fe…

Jeff voliks lecture here talks about Saturated fat and carbohydrates. If you are eating low carb and higher saturated fats it might not have the same effect.

        1. Unfortunately many in the health community do bacon and coconut milk for breakfast, avocadoes and butter for lunch, then chocolate and alcohol at night. And going above 30% sat'd fat intake in the presence of lots of nightly carbs is not a good idea IMO.

    2. rvanderm says:

Unfortunately, it seems like studies can end up saying just about anything these days. :-) I would love to know What Dr. Attia makes of the saturated fat/cancer study. Any way you could get him to comment?
For those of you who don't know, Peter Attia is an oncologist but also a partaker/purveyor of a high saturated fat diet.

      1. He partakes of a high fat diet but doesn't eat saturated fats "ad libitum" per se. I'll see if I can get him on the show again soon!
