Listener Q&A:

As compiled, edited and sometimes read by Brock, the Ben Greenfield Fitness Podcast “sidekick”.

For those of you who asked about what blood tests to ask your doctor for, here is the DirectLabs link that I mention.

Bitter Melon Extract for fat loss

Suzanne says @ 00:19:31
She has been using Bitter Melon extract and Garcinia Cambogia for weight loss. Is one better than the other? Can she take them together? Should she?

~ In my response, I mention MPX100 Bitter Melon Extract and Garcinia with 50% HCA.

Natural solutions for bloodshot eyes

Deanna says @ 00:25:44
Wondering what she can do about the blood shot-ness in the whites of her eyes. She wants the whites to be white again! She's in her mid-30s, she runs about 6 miles a day, she eats healthy and gets plenty of sleep. Could it be something lacking in her diet?

~ In my reply, I recommend this presentation on eye health from the Ancestral Health Symposium.

Home remedies for Shingles

Sam says @ 00:32:57
His sister just found out that she has the shingles virus. What might be good solutions or home remedies to treat shingles?

~ In my response, I mention this Tai Chi DVD and proteolytic enzymes from Recoverease.

Can you exercise hard if you're pregnant?

Vashti says @ 00:40:23
She is a fitness trainer… who is pregnant (bit of a surprise to her). She is 42 but fit and strong. Is there anything she should adjust? Any adaptions physically and nutritionally that she should make due to her age?

~ In my reply, I mention this controversial article on a Crossfit pregnant mom. I recommend these 14 core exercises for pregnancy. I also recommend this podcast on pregnancy with Cassandra Forsythe, the Better Baby Book by Dave Asprey, and Chris Kresser's Healthy Baby Code.

Foods that fight blood clots

Vicki says @ 00:55:16
She just started learning to run about a year ago. 6 months in she developed a blood clot in her neck. She was on coumadin for the last few months but she just had an ultrasound and the blood clot is now gone. She is back to running but she would like to keep her blood a little more thin. She has an issue with thick blood (she was on high doses on coumadin). Is there a natural way to make her blood more thin?

~ In my reply, I mention fish oil and Phenocane and proteolytic enzymes from Recoverease. I also recommend a full fat soluble vitamin spectrum that includes Vitamin K2 – 50-100mcg per day.

How to run a 15K

Shane says @ 01:02:12
He is a new runner, running 5ks, and has lost about 50lbs. He has decided to run a 15k at the end of October. How should he prepare? What should he take on the run? He is a complete rookie.

  1. Thanks for good tips :)

  2. ndolanphoto says:

    You rock! Thank you!

  3. ndolanphoto says:

Thanks Ben! And any (bad) side effects to look out for? Either long term or short term?

    1. If you have trouble sleeping at night use the Thermofactor BEFORE noon, not after noon, and don't use MPX100 immediately prior to an exercise session.

  4. ndolanphoto says:

Hi Ben! How long should one go on the MPX for? Is there a minimum time before you see results and is there a max time before you get "dependent" or possibly experience negative side effects? What happens when you come off of it?
I am thinking of purchasing the Bitter Melon Extract you recommended or perhaps the Thermo Pack, but before I invest, would like to know these answers. Also, with exercise and a healthy diet, does this Thermo Pack REALLY make an impact? How long until results? Many thanks and absolutely love the show!

    1. I use it just about every day. But you could just use it during times when you most want fat loss. Honestly, the entire Fat Loss pack will get you the fastest results. I'm a big fan of taking about a 3 month approach if you were to use something like this in conjunction with a fat loss program such as this: http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/belly-burn

I keep debating on whether to try bitter melon extract and this podcast convinced me that I should, especially with the holidays approaching. You mention that you use MPX, but when I click on Bitter Melon Extract at the top of this podcast it takes me to Solaray Bitter Melon Extract for $8.99. Does that brand work just as well? The MPX is a bit spendy for a one month supply, but I don't want to purchase something that doesn't work. Can you speak to specific brands and dosages? And, you would just take it before dinner, because I thought I heard you say before dinner and after dinner at one point? Thanks!

    1. You definitely want this stuff: http://pacificfit.net/items/mpx100-fat-burner/

Nothing comes close to it. I go EITHER 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after my primary meal of the day!

I can't stop staring at the pictures of her lifting…it's like I'm hypnotized
