Listener Q&A:

====================================== [contact-form 3 “AskBen”] ======================================

Mike asks: Just wanted to know your opinion on Naked juice?

Pam asks: I really enjoy dry roasted, in the shell, unsalted peanuts. Do you know if microwaving the peanuts for a couple of minutes will eliminate the afflatoxin?

In my response to Pam, I talk about Inner Circle Podcast #1 – Is Microwaving Food Bad?

This is the form of flower pollen extract I recommend to Joe

Joe asks: I've heard you tout the benefits of pollen extract paired with zinc for increasing testosterone levels. I went to my local health food store and couldn't find pollen extract. I did find Bee Pollen (nature's way brand). Is there an appreciable difference between the extract you suggest and the bee pollen that is readily available?

Nicki asks: Today during the Tour of California coverage elliptical chain rings were brought up. Is there any benefit for triathlon? Will it help to save legs for run?

Jeremy asks: I heard the Ben Greenfield podcast recently about colostrum so I ended up here: http://www.pacificfit.net/supplements.php#colostrum. My question is can you tell me why this product is better than, say, the Swanson vitamins brand? The one you recommend is from goats, and most others seem to be from cows. Also, it appears yours is almost 1500 mg  which is three times the 500 mg on the Swanson brand.

Jackie asks: Hi Ben. I've heard chia seeds have all the essential omega-3/omega-6's. Is this true, and are they in the correct ratio? Can chia seeds replace fish oil as a vegetarian option? (And are they better to or comparable to flax seed?)

Mark asks: Just bought a new stationary bike trainer (with Power Meter) to add additional cross-training to my marathon training. Love the bike and the additional training at odd hours and bad weather is great. The problem I'm having is the toe clips (I think), I believe they are causing achilles pain that I feel when I run. The pain is real close to the heal. I switched shoes but that didn't make a difference. I lowered the saddle that didn't make a difference. I've decided to remove the toe clips next. Any ideas that might help?

hksparky asks: As I've learned we train at the top of the Fat Burning Zone in order to teach our bodies how to burn fat. (1) Why bother teaching our bodies that when we race well into our Carb Burning zone? What race benefits do I get if my body will never see that low HR in a race? (2) Is it possible to train my body so that the top of my Fat Burning HR zone allows me to run at my race pace? (3) When you run your 1:30 Half Marathon in the Half Ironman's are you burning predominately Fat?

Paul asks: I am planning on running a 50 mile ultramarathon. My question is what type of training would your recommend. I would think 5 days of running per week with some type of interval/hill work each week, but not sure. Also with high running mileage I assume that cross training would be minimal?

Paul asks: I had something really strange happen to me after a race recently. After completing a 14 mile trail race, I took a seat. When I stood back up and reached down for my water, I got this crazy taste in my mouth. To me it tasted like my fillings. My hands also seemed to tingle. It lasted about a minute or two. Granted, I was a bit undertrained, and probably a bit dehydrated, but never had this happen before. Any clue?

    Hi Ben,

    Great video on 5 ways on how to suppress appetite. I also listen to your podcast with Quick and Dirty Tips, and I have your iTunes app. I have a quick question. I recently purchased a home chin-up or pull-up bar because I want to tone my abs and my arms. Any tips?
