OK, I’m going to make this fairly quick. If you don’t want to read this post, you can even download the audio announcement by clicking here!

I am completely re-designing the Shape21 Lean Body Manual. After 4 years of learning unique food sensitivity and nutrition tactics for enhancing rapid weight loss, the new Shape21 Lean Body Manual is going to feature a unique, holistic and 100% allergen-free diet. Your cells will have no choice but to eliminate toxins and fats as rapidly as possible!

And the book is still going to retain the proprietary easy-to-understand, no-fancy-gym-equipment-required lean body exercise routine that hundreds of individuals have used to rapidly shed through body fat.

***But that’s not all***.

As a part of the new Shape21 release, beginning on May 21st, 2009, I will be selecting 21 males and 21 females to be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a 63 day rapid fat loss challenge using a 100% free copy of the brand new, re-designed Shape21 Lean Body Manual. The book doesn’t go public until July 1, 2009, but these 42 individuals will get a chance to try it out before anyone else.

Nothing Fishy Here

April 21st, 2009

fish_oil

So here’s a question that I receive quite a bit, and which I answered in the last podcast (episode #40) but that I will also write about in this post…

“Which is better, fish oil or flax seed oil?”

First, it may be important to remind you why you would take either fish oil or flax seed oil in the first place. Basically, one hundred years ago, the process of removing oils from vegetables and seeds actually changed. It changed to something called “screw-nut expelling”, and while this allowed a more industrialized, mass extraction of the oils in corn, sunflower, safflower and peanuts, it also destroyed much of the valuable omega 3 fatty acid content, and concentrated the omega 6 fatty acid content.

And that’s a bad thing, as I’ll explain shortly.

In addition, farming practices have gradually evolved to give animals diets and mass-produced feed that is high in omega 6 fatty acids, but low in omega 3’s. Even fish raised on fish farms is relatively low in omega 3’s, since farm feed does not provide the omega 3 rich phytoplankton that wild fish can eat.

As if that weren’t enough, food manufacturers have figured out that omega 3 fatty acids reduce shelf life of a food product, so many packaged and processed foods have had their omega 3’s purposefully removed! And the process of fat hydrogenation for making convenient foods like margarine and cream cheese instantly destroys omega 3’s! And any packaged food needs hydrogenated fats to actually last long enough to make it into your cupboard.

In this April 14, 2009 free audio episode, I address the following listener Q&A’s:

Listener Jenny asks via call-in audio: Is there any difference between fish oil and flax seed oil? Will I get an advantage with taking one vs. the other? Or should I just take them both?

-In my response, I give Jenny a detailed explanation that goes into the difference in oxidation, toxins, mercury, PCB’s and saturated fat in fish oil vs. flax seed oil.

Listener William asks: I was just reading an article in the newspaper about some people who have quit giving their children dairy in an attempt to get rid of skin eczema. How much of a correlation is there between milk and dairy consumption and presence of acne or other skin problems?

-My response to William goes into great detail on all the different hormones in cow’s milk and why they may be potentially hazardous, not just for acne, but for many other health conditions. I personally use powdered goat’s milk, from a company called Mt. Capra.

Ben Greenfield’s Thoughts on Yoga For Athletes

April 10th, 2009

yoga

I recently had a chance to watch and use a DVD called “Yoga For Endurance Athletes”.

It is an interactive DVD, which actually really impressed me, since I often don’t have the time to attend, say, an hour-long yoga class. This DVD includes over 2 hours of yoga moves, but lets you “mix-n-match” your own sections, like IT bands, Shoulders, Breathing or Hamstrings.

My wife and I actually were able to do a quick but highly effective 25 minute yoga workout while the kids were napping and we hit the exact sections we wanted by just selecting them on the DVD menu, without having to worry about driving to the gym, warm-up, or laying on the mat for 10 minutes afterwards (although that is an option on the DVD). There are also some pre-set routines, like “Strength”, “Balance”, or, my favorite, “Focus”, which is supposed to get you ready for a race.

Just below, there’s a video with even more information and a demo. You can get the “Yoga For Endurance Athletes” DVD by clicking here. Read the rest of this entry »

Nutrition Supplements Endorsed by Ben Greenfield

April 7th, 2009

freshfruitvegetableI am often asked what my “Top Recommended Supplements” are. Sometimes the question is vague (i.e. overall health) and sometimes it is more specific (i.e. burn fat fast). But it is probably the most common question I receive.

That’s understandable.

Ever walked in a health club, gym or supplement outlet and been hounded by what seems like eight thousand “fat loss” labels staring back at you? Or some supplement with thirty ingredients designed to “shed fat and build lean muscle”? Or an article in the newspaper that basically tells you “nothing at all works, just exercise harder”?

Having worked for over a decade with thousands of people from across the planet, I realize that everybody’s nutritional and dietary needs are vastly different. Because everybody’s body is different. BUT there are a handful of supplements (SEVEN, as a matter of fact) that I actually do recommend, across the board, for everybody. These specific supplements will ensure that your body operates at peak capacity with maximum fat burning, optimized physical performance, laser focus, enhanced mental clarity, and a bulletproof immune system.

In other words, if you were headed to a stranded desert island, these are the supplements you’d want to take along. My “Super-Seven”, if you will. Anything else is just icing on the cake. Here they are (and yes, I take them all): Read the rest of this entry »

This podcast is a must-listen for any of you out there who have chronic injuries, aches and pains that just won’t go away, or a plateau in your physical or athletic performance. In this April 7, 2009 free audio interview, I speak with Dr. Herb Akers, who is a Chiropractor, Nutritionist, Applied Kinesiologist and Medical Intuitive. He is founder and developer of the Art of Matrix-ReGeneration, a healing approach that combines traditional healing with an understanding of quantum physics.

Dr. Akers believes in enhancing health and human performance through developing and expanding self awareness, which occurs primarily through the release of physical, chemical and mental holding patterns. Fascial release, nutritional cleansing, and yoga are a few of the techniques that he uses synergistically to lay the groundwork for an understanding of what really ails the human body.
